Pangaea Breaks Apart
200 million years ago Pangaea started to break apart. The story of Pangaea is now showed with the explanation of plate tectonics. Continental drift was thought by Alfred Wegener.
South America breaks away from Africa
During the continental drift South America moved away from Africa about 70 million years ago. New mountain ranges were formed from South America breaking away from Africa, from Gondwana.
Flowering Plants
240 million years ago the first flowering plant appeared called Magnolias.
Dinosaurs
About 225 million years ago, dinosaurs evolved from more primitive reptiles. Many scientists had the theory that birds are dinosaurs. They noticed that early birds and dinosaurs look almost exactly the same. Their were many different types of dinosaurs living in this era of time.
Mammals
During the Mesozoic era mammals began to appear as a furry small creature, about 225 million years ago. Us humans are mammals, so we evolved last in the major events of earths history.
Birds Archaeopteryx
Archaeopteryx is an early prehistoric bird from about 208 million years ago. It had teeth, three claws on each wing, a flat sternum, belly ribs, a light weighted feathered body, long neck, long thigh, short calf, three toes facing forward, one facing backwards-each with claws.
Snakes
In the Jurassic period about one hundred fifty million years ago snakes evolved. They evolved from lizards. The earliest snakes had legs but eventually they lost them so they could do different things. Snakes are carnivore which means they only eat meat nothing else.
Mesozoic Mass Extinction
66 millions years ago scientists hypothesize that this mass extinction occurred when an object from space struck earth.
The Mesozoic era was most known for it's mass extinction, when Pangaea was breaking apart , and also exhibits of animals.
